Opposites Attract...

I had a professor tell me one time that opposites attract and then they divorce. I guess it's for this reason that I'm thankful that the husband and I are more alike than we are opposites. We both enjoy being active (him more than me), we both like to eat good food (me more than him) and we both like to watch TV. This of course is where our opposites play out. Just because we both enjoy television does not mean that we can ever agree on what to watch.

I was given some advice right after marriage that has stuck with me these past couple of months. It's OK to watch television in separate rooms. When you start sleeping in separate rooms you need to reevaluate your relationship. So this is how we compromise, I am FORCED to watch TV in our bedroom while laying around on our very new, very comfortable king size bed. While the husband stretches out in front of the 60 inch flat screen that was our very first purchase. We literally sat it on the floor and watched TV in folding chairs until we could buy real furniture. But the 60 inch was a NEED, not a want :)

I was really quite uncertain why the husband and I couldn't agree on what to watch. So I've created a list of top television shows that each of us enjoy. This really brought things into perspective..

Husband's Top Picks
  1. ESPN (this can be anything sports related. He enjoys everything from Football and Baseball to Ice fishing and bowling)
  2. GOLF channel (not to be outdone by ESPN)
  3. TRU TV (Lizard Lick Towing, Operation Repo & All Worked Up)
  4. Military Channel ( I have to admit I can watch this one every once in a while with him)
  5. Anything related to people serving time. JAIL, MSNBC Behind Bars etc.
Wifey's Top Picks
  1. BRAVO TV (Real Housewives of anywhere, Jeff Lewis Flipping Out, Bethany Getting Married, Bethany Ever After etc.)
  2. E! (Keeping up with the Kardashians, Lamar & Khloe, E! News etc.)
  3. MTV (Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant, True Life, Real World/Road Rules Challenges Duels or whatever they're called now)
  4. HGTV (My First Home, anything remodel related)
  5. Anything reality that I may have left off (Survivor, American Idol, Bachelor Pad, Bachelor Bachelorette etc.)
The husband refers to my television choices as garbage, and to be honest they aren't quality family television shows. I probably will have to make adjustments when we have kids. So for now, I'll keep telling him as he comes to bed, "Honey you probably dont' want to come in here.. It's the reunion show of Real Housewives and it's has 2 parts!"
